Established by Claudia Morgado & Eric Charles Wright in 2009. The partnership of BOOM architects was cultivated by a common connection to Johannesburg and the relationship of the city’s users to the urban fabric (housing and public space). These city themes are investigated and analyzed through the engagement of the practice with The University of Johannesburg (UJ) (Department of Architecture). BOOM sees this involvement as an extension to the practice thinking, where ideas about urbanity, architecture and people can be critiqued and built upon through constant conversation.
As a young and evolving practice BOOM is committed to the progressive mentality – subverting the top down role of architects – plugging in to existing processes at ground level. This immersive approach to practice injects rapid development to our thinking and methodology to projects of engagement – an exponential progression of understanding and adaptability.
